XRCulture

eXplore & Reuse 3D cultural heritage within the Data Space

XRculture is set to significantly enrich the common European data space for cultural heritage by supporting and expanding the availability of 3D and Extended Reality (XR) contents. A key focus of this project lies in the creation and enhancement of high-quality 3D models, leveraging cutting-edge AI-based techniques that are increasingly prevalent (Objective 1). These advanced models will serve as a foundation for developing XR applications tailored to various use cases such as preservation, education, and tourism, and applicable in different scenarios, including museum collections, heritage at risk, and lost heritage (Objective 3). Furthermore, XRculture will establish best practices for the adoption of these emerging technologies, thereby accelerating the digital transformation of cultural heritage institutions and bolstering their capabilities (Objective 4). This initiative will not only contribute to the individual efforts within the cultural sector but also align with a broader network of projects and other previous DSCH-supporting projects (Objective 5). This integration aims to create a comprehensive and cohesive strategy, enhancing the collective approach to digital innovation in cultural heritage.

Arctur’s role

Explore and deliver diverse XR scenarios, considering both the typology of contents and the typology of device and experience it the most suitable to be delivered. The scenarios encompass VR, AR (hologram) and MR technologies that are applied in different real-life situations- for heritage at risk, heritage tourism, and dispersed heritage, lost heritage assets and museums collection. All these multimedia experiences will be the baselines for testing in educational and training programmes that can be enrolled at school level, as well as brought to the attention of stakeholders like museums and digital curators, or public bodies in charge to rethink the cultural offer. Thus will enhance digital literacy, promote cultural education, and assess the transformative impact of XR and 3D technologies in real-world environments.
