FF4EuroHPC, the third edition of the Fortissimo project, has started!

16. 9. 2020 / Industry We are proud that Arctur is once again one of the core partners of the project Fortissimo third edition - FF4EuroHPC. In the previous Fortissimo projects, more than 90 experiments were run and 79 success stories were produced demonstrating how SMEs can use Cloud-based HPC for their business.

The FF4EuroHPC project started on 2nd September and will last three years. This project is funded by the European Commission within H2020, The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in a total budget of EUR 9.9 Mio.  The project is coordinated by the Universitaet Stuttgart (USTUTT, DE) and composed of 5 other partners: Scapos AG (DE), Teratec (FR), CINECA (IT), CESGA (ES) and Arctur (SI).

The aim of FF4EuroHPC

The project aim is to reach and support Europe’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) by providing High-Performance Computers and expert help for the development or improvement of their products. SMEs will be able to solve business challenges and develop innovative business opportunities. The outcomes will be presented as success stories to inspire the community on how to better products and services to improve competitiveness in the global marketplace. There will be two open calls: the first one will be open from November 2020 to May 2021, and the second one from June 2021 to January 2022. The FF4EuroHPC open calls will be open to proposals that address business challenges from European SMEs from varied application domains, but preference is given to engineering and manufacturing, or sectors able to demonstrate fast economic growth or particular economic impact for Europe. The experiments entail support for overcoming the barriers to using HPC technologies, resources and advanced services. FF4EuroHPC will generate and execute a set of sub-projects, referred to as experiments, clustered in two tranches (following each of two open calls). Each tranche will run over a period of 15 months.

The Fortissimo Marketplace, which was developed in the previous Fortissimo project and provides permanent, simple and cost-effective access to the hardware, software and expertise required for computationally intensive simulations, via an on-demand, pay-per-use, “one-stop-shop” model to all European businesses, in particular SMEs, will be completed and further evolved.

Widening the HPC User base through impact awareness

Arctur will be, as in the past project editions, responsible for the production of the success stories and project activities promoting to raise impact awareness amongst industrial and commercial HPC user communities and service providers.
